Plant Description and Operating Era

The CertainTeed Riverside CA plant allegedly manufactured Transite asbestos-cement pipe, Fluid-Tite asbestos-cement sewer pipe, and related asbestos-cement products for California and Southwest U.S. water, sewer, and utility infrastructure markets during the U.S. asbestos era. Riverside CA was one of CertainTeed’s West Coast asbestos-cement pipe manufacturing sites, supplying municipal water districts, industrial process water and drainage systems, and irrigation projects across California and neighboring states.

At the CertainTeed Riverside CA plant during the U.S. asbestos era (approximately 1940s-1985), plaintiffs have alleged the following premises ACM uses and work activities:

  • Chrysotile-asbestos fiber receiving, weighing, blending, and milling for asbestos-cement pipe (Transite / Fluid-Tite) manufacture
  • Asbestos-cement pipe forming, curing, machining, and finishing
  • Corrugated asbestos-cement roofing sheet pressing and cutting
  • Asbestos siding shingle molding and finishing

  • Asbestos sprayed fireproofing on structural steel (pre-1973 EPA ban)
